The Vision of the Brown Scapular
St. Simon Stock was a 13th-century Englishman and an early leader of the Carmelite Order. He is most famously remembered for his vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who appeared to him and presented the Brown Scapular. This "Scapular Promise" became one of the most cherished devotions in the Church, symbolizing Mary’s motherly protection and a commitment to follow Christ. St. Simon’s life was defined by his transition from a hermit in the English wilds to a prior general who helped the Carmelites flourish throughout Europe.
