Biographical: Born in 1260 in Forlì, Italy. Originally a political activist who opposed the Pope, he experienced a profound conversion after an encounter with St. Philip Benizi. He joined the Servite Order and became known for his holiness and devotion. At age 60, he developed a cancerous growth on his leg that required amputation; the night before the surgery, he spent hours in prayer before a crucifix and awoke to find his leg completely healed. He died in 1345.
