Saint Christopher

Also known as: Christophoros (Christ-bearer), Reprobus.

Patronage: Travelers and motorists; Athletes and surfers; Protection against storms, floods, and sudden death; Bachelors and gardeners.
Biographical: Believed to have been a man of remarkable size and strength in the 3rd century, Christopher sought to serve the "greatest king in existence." After discovering that even the most powerful earthly kings and the devil himself feared Christ, he dedicated his life to God. On the advice of a hermit, he used his great stature to carry travelers across a dangerous, rain-swollen river. His life reached its spiritual pinnacle when he carried a small child who grew impossibly heavy; the child revealed himself as Christ, bearing the weight of the world. Christopher was eventually martyred for his faith under the Emperor Decius.

Having conquered the treacherous currents of the river, he is the primary advocate for protection against the "storms" of life - both literal tempests and the spiritual floods that threaten to overwhelm the soul. He is a dedicated guardian for athletes and those who rely on physical endurance, serving as a reminder that when we serve the weak, we carry Christ Himself. This card is a sacramental of safe passage and steadfast courage, intended to provide a "shield of protection" for the traveler and a steadying hand for those navigating life’s most difficult crossings.
