The Queen of Heaven in the American Wilderness
In 1859, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a young Belgian immigrant named Adele Brise in the woods of Wisconsin. Identifying herself as the "Queen of Heaven," she instructed Adele to gather the children and teach them what they should know for salvation: their catechism, how to sign themselves with the Cross, and how to approach the sacraments. During the Great Peshtigo Fire of 1871, the chapel and grounds were miraculously spared from the flames, standing as a green oasis in a charred landscape.
